Former dog trainer and lifetime animal enthusiast here. Just get some powdered boric acid and spread it around your house. $30 solution to this problem. They'll be gone in a week and then you just vacuum the powder up. Make sure you get it in all the nooks and crannies and use a hard bristle broom to really brush it in to the carpet fibers.
Apply it thoroughly to carpet and in corners and edges. Fleas like to hide in those areas.
Test it in a small, obscure area first to make sure it doesn't damage the color of your carpet but anecdotally I've never once had that problem.
Here's a spec sheet on boric acid. It's pretty safe. Low toxicity. Pet safe. Won't kill you if you accidentally eat it. All that good stuff.
